DJI Pocket 3 or GoPro HERO11 Black: which fits your filming?
Compare a handheld gimbal camera with a waterproof action camera through the shots you actually want to make.
PEH Editorial · October 1, 2026 · 3 min read
A specification-based comparison using DJI and GoPro documentation checked on October 1, 2026. We have not tested these cameras side by side. Use-case recommendations are our interpretation of their documented design, not measured image-quality or durability results.
Picture three shots you want to record: a walk through a city, a conversation facing the camera, or a ride filmed from a mount. Write those down before comparing resolution numbers. Where the camera will sit and whether it will get wet can matter more than the largest number on its box.
This comparison covers Osmo Pocket 3 and HERO11 Black, not other Pocket or HERO models. Our linked DJI listing is the Creator Combo; compare its actual accessories with the exact GoPro offer you are considering. These are two existing PEH discoveries, not a survey declaring the best cameras on the market.

1. Decide how you will hold it
DJI documents a three-axis mechanical gimbal. GoPro documents HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization inside its action camera. Our inference: Pocket 3 is worth considering for handheld, deliberately framed filming; HERO11 Black is worth considering when mounting and exposure to water shape the job. Neither description proves which produces smoother footage in your particular movement or settings.

2. Treat water as a deciding factor
DJI explicitly says Pocket 3 is not waterproof. GoPro rates the HERO11 Black camera to 33 feet, approximately 10 metres. That rating does not automatically cover every accessory or an incorrectly closed door. Read the current care and sealing instructions before water use. For the comparison here, underwater filming rules out an unprotected Pocket 3.

3. Compare the mode you will use
Pocket 3 lists normal 4K recording up to 60 fps; its 4K/120 option is a Slow Motion mode. HERO11 Black lists 5.3K/60 and 4K/120. These are available modes, not a promise that all stabilization, framing or recording options work together at every setting. Choose a delivery format first, then check that exact mode in the manual. We have not measured low-light quality, overheating or runtime.

4. Compare the whole recording kit
Check the seller box contents rather than assuming a bundle name means the same accessories everywhere. Both cameras need suitable microSD storage; DJI lists no internal storage, and GoPro excludes a card from its standard package. Also decide whether your shots require a microphone, mount or spare power. Check compatibility before buying those separately.

Choose around your three shots
For handheld dry-land stories, start by exploring Pocket 3 and its gimbal workflow. For wet activities or mounted action, start with HERO11 Black and the mounting and sealing instructions for your setup. These are conditional suggestions, not an overall winner. If your phone already covers your planned shots, another camera may add more kit without solving a real problem. Check current price, exact bundle, regional availability and return terms at the seller.
